5 Great Ways To Be More Environmentally Friendly

  1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Recycling is a great way to do your part for the environment. It is one of the most effective ways of reducing our consumption of the Earth’s natural resources. Recycling not only helps save resources, but also helps reduce pollution, support public health, save electricity/energy, reduce landfill waste, save money, and create important jobs. There are over 9,000 curbside recycling programs and over 12,000 recycling drop-off centers in the United States. Do a quick search for the recycling program near you and make a difference today.

  2. Go Vegan!

Meat production is the main reason for deforestation. It is also responsible for more greenhouse gas than all forms of transportation combined. By choosing what to put on your plate you can make a huge difference for the environment. To learn more environmental reasons in favor of the vegan/vegetarian diet CLICK HERE.

  3. Drive a more fuel efficient car, carpool, or take public transportation.

The average passenger car emits 16.8 thousand pounds of carbon dioxide, 894 pounds of carbon monoxide, and uses 915 gallons of gas each year. By driving a more fuel efficient car or carpooling you can cut these values down significantly. You can also significantly reduce these values by taking a public form of transportation such as a train, bus, or subway. If you can’t afford a more fuel efficient car then you can still reduce your environmental impact by driving more efficiently using the tips found HERE. (you can save up to 30% on gas)

  4. Use less water.

Fresh water is one of the world’s most important and scarce resources. By using less water in our homes and gardens we can do our part to conserve one of our most important resources.  To learn more about how you can conserve water in your home and yard and save money on your water bill CLICK HERE.

  5. Conserve electricity.

Saving electricity is another great way to do your part for the environment. Saving electricity will not only help the environment, but also allow you to save a significant amount of money each month on your energy bill. To learn more about several ways you can use less electricity and save money on your energy bill CLICK HERE.

You can adapt a much more environmentally friendly lifestyle by applying just one of these strategies. “Being more environmentally friendly doesn’t always have to be a selfless act of respect for our planet. It is also important to note that going green can save you some green.” –Manny Rutinel

Milieuvriendelijker klussen?

    * Gebruik uitsluitend regenpijpen van polypropyleen i.p.v. PVC of kunststof.

There was a children’s some on the Curioua George soundtrack by Jack Jackson called the 3 R’s. This article just brought that song up in my spirit. It was catchy!

Thank you for the like on my blog. It led me to your blog and I was intrigued to see that you are a vegan. My 17 year old has decided to follow a vegan lifestyle after being a vegetarian for the past year. She is only on her first week but is really enjoying the experience of trying different vegan food recipes.
I will definitely be sending her the link to your blog!

Hey Manny, thanks for liking my blog post from today. I like this post, it has some good tips. Just wanted to add that recycling is an essential activity within society and it provides many jobs, but often overlooked by people are the other 2 Rs – Reduce and Reuse. Reduce what you consume by simply buying less stuff, less often and of greater quality and durability so it lasts longer using fewer resources. Also, look for less packaging and better packaging materials such as cardboard, wood cases, glass or aluminum rather than plastic and always use reusable bags. This leads me to the second R – Reuse, try to reuse or repurpose items once you are done or they have worn out. A key aspect to sustainability is the efforts of corporations to create zero waste, taking back their products and reusing or repurposing them rather than creating waste in landfills. Reduce and Reuse precede Recycle because this is where the biggest gains in sustainability and resiliency are made but business and governments have focused on Recycling as it is easier to integrate. The other 2 Rs require larger scale change but will create bigger impact and a better world.

These are some great tips! I really wish my area would implement some more public transportation, nearly all transportation is by car. Even worse, it’s not a bike friendly place either. It seems that there are candles and ghost bikes on every corner. Putting some extra thought in city planning could really go a long way.
